Chickens kick downhill – feed your garden

Build Regenerative/recycling Networks

Consider building a regenerative network with your land. A catch pond at low elevations can grow reeds which filter and clean the water and those reeds can be harvested and feed to the chickens further up in elevation, near the garden and a swale.

Since chickens only kick downhill, you can plan a chicken yard with a horizontal gate at the lower edge. Toss reeds and chicken fodder up near the chicken coup and let them shred it and kick it down hill to your gate. Easily rake it out and use it as nutrient rich mulch to use on your nearby garden. If there is a small swale between the chickens and garden, the swale picks up extra nutrients from chicken yard runoff and brings it to the awaiting catch pond. From the catch pond, gravity-feed irrigation is available to water-loving grow areas below.
